Miss Mink and kittens

We got a call about a beautiful mom & her young kittens. Little did we know she was hiding an ugly secret.Miss Mink came into care with her 6 babies, and after giving them a moment to settle in, her foster mom noticed severe swelling around her mouth. This morning the whole family is off to the vet to determine what is going on and how we can help her! We hope whatever is causing the wounds in her mouth isn’t an infection and potentially passed on to her babies. They’re so young and may not be able to fight infection like adult cats. We also hope Miss Mink is able to continue nursing her little ones, but her amazing foster family is standing by if they do need to be bottle fed. Updates to follow!

Barney (in memory of)

We are very sad to announce of our SCARS Ambassador dog, Barney. He attended numerous SCARS events and we all adored him. From Linda, his wonderful mom: “Barney – In March 2010, Barney came to us to foster. He had been a stray picked up in the Lac La Biche dump and rescued by SCARS. I recall the lady who had picked him up saying “you got the cute puppy.” Despite where he’d been found he was the happiest little guy. On the way home he sat across the back window of the car telling off anyone who had the affrontery to pass us. Needless to say, we became “foster fails”. We continued to foster and he was “Uncle Barney” to numerous rescue puppies teaching them all the ins and outs to being good doggie “citizens.” He was our constant companion, never missing the opportunity for a car ride. He loved ice cream and chicken nuggets. He had three big girls in his life – Roxy, Bella and most recently, Lady Samantha. …

Tigress

** Warning Graphic Image Ahead ** Meet Tigress. When you are an in heat female dog roaming free in a community things can get intense! There was so many male dogs fighting over me. They followed me non-stop for weeks! Sometimes, that also escalates to fighting. Sadly that happened to me… My foot got in the middle. It got mangled and it was left untreated. I was very sick when I arrived at the vet. I’m doing much better day after day later but it’s not known if I will lose my leg yet. Please consider a direct donation to a girl like me at www.scarscare.ca/donate! More updates to come.
