Ashton has Mange

Cats, Dogs March 29, 2017

My name is Ashton and I feel very lucky to have survived the past winter. As you can see, I’m suffering from a condition that left me with bald spots and lots of sores. I ended up a northern pound that SCARS monitors so they rushed me into their care. I have demodectic mange, a skin condition caused by tiny, naturally occurring mites that proliferate under the right conditions and cause skin infections. For me, those conditions were likely extreme stress and malnutrition.

The good news is that my veterinary team has given me the medication I need to get better! With time, my coat will grow back and I will become a healthy, pretty dog again! Everyone who meets me says I am a sweet girl that didn’t deserve to suffer like this.

Thanks to SCARS, I will never have to be cold or hungry again! To help dogs like me, please donate to SCARS.

Sukie’s lost her leg in a trap (Warning: some photos are graphic)

Cats, Dogs March 4, 2017

It’s truly amazing what a puppy can endure, figuring that life equals pain. This little girl was possibly caught in a snare or a leghold trap. She managed to pull free but did severe damage to her hind leg. Even then, if someone would have cared enough to take her to a vet, her leg […] Second Chance Animal Rescue Society

Banjo was hit by a vehicle

Cats, Dogs March 1, 2017

Sweet little Banjo. He is a guy with a lot of personality and a will to survive. SCARS visits rural communities to collect owned pets for transport for spay/neuter, and after a period of recovery return to their homes. During a recent visit, we heard that a dog had been hit by a car and […] Second Chance Animal Rescue Society

Hi SCARS! Elmer is doing great. He is very protective and loves his farm life. He can’t wait to get to the barn to see everybody. He’s about 60 lbs. Don’t think he will get much bigger just fill out a little bit more. We had a party with his friends for his birthday!

Hi SCARS! I brought Cuddles (now Fiona) home with me on Halloween. She was shy for a couple of days but very quickly became the most snuggly, loving, chatty friend a guy could ask for! She's such a sweetheart and I'm so happy I found her.  She is spoiled beyond belief and totally in

  • Animal Justice Applauds Withdrawal of Proposal for Roadside Zoo in Ontario

    by on November 28, 2019 - 0 Comments

Back in October, we told you about a proposal for a roadside animal attraction in Kearney, Ontario, that would confine bears and cheetahs.  Animal Justice submitted comments to Kearney Town Council, as did our friends at Zoocheck and World Animal Protection, explaining why the town should reject a proposal to change its zoning bylaw so...
